Derek Magnuson Represents USA Division III Men's Basketball Team on 2016 Brazil Tour


Ron Smith, Director of USA Sports Tours & Events recently announced the rosters and coaches for the USA Division III Men's Basketball Team – Brazil Tour 2016, which included Bethel forward Derek Magnuson. The team is made up of invited NCAA Division III basketball players from throughout the United States. Team members have been recognized at the national, regional and conference levels. "This is an outstanding group of basketball players that come from 13 different state and 15 different colleges and universities from across the United States. We feel that we have some of the BEST of the BEST representing almost every Region in the country. These players have been high achievers both on the court and in the classroom. They represent everything good that the NCAA Division III institutions have to offer. " The USA D-3 Men's & Women's Basketball Teams will begin their Brazil Tour 2016 in Orlando, Florida on July 19th. The tour runs from July 19-28. After team orientation and practices in Orlando the team departs for Sao Paulo, Brazil on Wednesday, July 20th. The USA D-3 Basketball Teams will play doubleheader games (Men & Women) on July 21 and 22 in the state of Sao Paulo vs. selected Under 22 and professional teams from the region. On July 23rd the USA D-3 Men & Women will conduct a "Skills Clinic for the Youth of Jundiai". Afterwards the women will play vs. a professional team from the Paulista League. After the game the team travels to Rio de Janeiro. The men will play on Sunday, July 24 vs. Clube de Regatas do Flamengo. Both the men & women will play their final games on Tuesday, July 26 at the Botafogo Clube. The team will depart Brazil on the evening of July 27th and return to the USA on July 28th. While in Brazil the teams will experience educational, cultural and social aspects of Brazilian life through city, school and sports club visits. While in Rio the team will be staying on the famous Copacabana Beach and touring the Christ the Redeemer Statue and Sugar Loaf Mountain, two of the most recognizable landmarks in the world. The USA D-3 Basketball Teams will also visit sites and venues that will be hosting the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. The Opening Ceremonies for the Rio Games is August 5th.
