Kyle Zimmermann Honored as Capital One Academic All-American
Bethel men's basketball player Kyle Zimmermann has had a special season no doubt, but Tuesday morning made it even more memorable as the senior leader was honored to the 2015 Capital One Academic All-America team for Division III basketball. Zimmermann was one of 15 players selected to three different five-man squads and he was the only player represented from the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC). Zimmermann, who was a two-time Acadademic All-District recipient, has been a stud in the classroom. He has amassed a 3.88 GPA as an Athletic Training major and is a three MIAC Academic All-Conference award-winner. BU's big man in the paint has had an outstanding senior season, as the Champlin, Minn., native has averaged 17.2 points, 9.3 rebounds, and 2.0 blocks per game. The four-time MIAC Player of the Week leads the league in points and rebounds, ranks second in field-goal percentage (60.1) and blocked shots, and sits third in total steals (41). "Zim" and the Royals reached their 14th postseason in the last 16 years. As the No. 4 seed they'll host Concordia-Moorhead on Wednesday night at 7 p.m. It's the first time since the 2008-09 season that Bethel has hosted a playoff game.
