Zimmermann Scores 1,000th Point in Royals Win over St. Mary's

Criticism for his height disadvantage as a post player never stopped Kyle Zimmermann from being an explosive basketball player and Saturday he proved just how effective he could be by scoring his 1,000th career point as a Royal in Bethel's 79-59 victory over Saint Mary's.

Zimmermann not only reached a milestone mark, but he also had an incredible performance in Saturday's matinee with 25 points, 12 rebounds, five blocks, five assists, three steals, and zero rebounds—his seventh double-double this season. Zimmermann was 11-of-13 from the floor and 3-of-5 from the line. Zimmerman's special day also saw three others in double figures, including Bridgeport Tusler, Kyle von Schmidt-Pauli, and Brycen Wojta. Tusler finished the day with 18 points, five assists, and four rebounds, while VSP added 13 points thanks to a 3-of-4 effort from long range. Wojta scored 11 points and delivered a trio of dimes. The Royals dominated from the get-go and never looked back. They built a 9-0 lead in the opening two and a half minutes of the game and pushed the lead to 16 at the midway point. BU dominated SMU 19-8 in points off turnovers, 18-9 in second chance points, and 40-32 in points in the paint. Now 12-5 overall and 8-4 in loop play, Bethel finds themselves in a tie for third place with Saint John's University—a team they lost to by two points almost four weeks ago. The Royals will look to hold their ground in the week ahead, but will have to do it by defeating both Hamline and Saint John's on the road. BU and the Pipers tipoff in St. Paul on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
