Zimmermann Honored with Third MIAC Athlete of the Week Award

Bethel's Kyle Zimmermann (Champlin, Minn./Champlin Park) continued his tremendous senior season with two more great performances last week while helping the Royals earn a split in a pair of key MIAC games. Zimmermann had a double-double in each game as he averaged 20 points and 13 rebounds per contest while shooting an incredible 82.4 percent from the floor and 85.7 percent from the line. For his performance, the MIAC sports information directors honored Zimmermann Monday with his third MIAC Men's Basketball Athlete-of-the-Week award of the 2014-15 season. Zimmermann's latest heroics came in the form of a 19-point, 13-rebound double-double in Wednesday's 80-72 loss at Concordia, and a 21-point, 13-rebound double-double to help Bethel beat Augsburg on the road, 83-60. He was 7-for-9 from the floor against the Cobbers and 7-for-8 against the Auggies, and shot 12-for-14 from the line for the week. Zimmermann was also honored with the MIAC's weekly award on Nov. 17 and Dec. 8, to give him one in each of the season's first three months, and he has a double-double in each of his last four outings. This season, the Royals' star leads the MIAC in rebounds (9.5 per game) while ranking third in scoring (17.4 points per game), field goal percentage (64.8) and blocked shots (1.5 per game). Thanks to last week's split, Bethel is now 8-3 overall and 4-2 in the MIAC. The Royals are currently part of a four-way tie for third place and just a game back in the loss column of co-leaders St. Olaf and St. Thomas. This week, Zimmermann and company hit the road in search of continued success with a MIAC game Wednesday at Macalester at 7 p.m. and a trip to Northfield Saturday to take on conference foe Carleton at 3 p.m.
