Zimmermann Earns His Second MIAC Athlete of the Week Award

The Bethel University men's basketball scored a pair of big wins last week - including an upset of No. 20-ranked St. Olaf College - behind a great performance from star senior Kyle Zimmermann. The Royals' forward averaged a double-double (18.0 points, 10.5 rebounds) last week while shooting 70.6 percent from the floor and 92.3 percent from the line. For his performance, the MIAC sports information directors honored Zimmermann Monday with his second MIAC Men's Basketball Athlete-of-the-Week award of the 2014-15 season. Zimmermann's big week started with 22 points, seven rebounds and three steals to lead Bethel to an 84-75 road nonconference win over nearby Northwestern. He followed that up with a tremendous all-around performance against the Oles' big front line in a huge MIAC win for the Royals. Zimmermann finished with 14 points, 14 rebounds, five steals, five blocked shots and two assists in the win over St. Olaf. Zimmerman was 12-for-17 from the floor and 12-for-13 from the line in the two wins. This season, he ranks second in the MIAC in scoring (17.6 points per game), rebounds (7.8 per game) and blocked shots (2.0 per game). Thanks to the two wins, the Royals improved to 4-1 overall, and the win over the Oles helped Bethel open MIAC play with a 1-0 record. Zimmermann and company hope to build on the two-game winning streak with a pair of MIAC games on the schedule this week. Monday the Royals travel to Winona to face Saint Mary's at 7:45 p.m., and Wednesday's they return home to host Hamline at 7:30 p.m. on their home court.
