USA Sports recently announced that Brycen Wojta was selected to be a member of the USA Division III Men's Basketball Select Team that will be traveling through Brazil throughout the summer of 2014. Handpicked NCAA Division III basketball players that were recognized as All-American, All-Region, and All-Conference from all over the United States make up the national team.
"This is an incredible opportunity that I am really looking forward to," said freshman guard Brycen Wojta. "Being a part of Bethel's program and learning from my teammates awarded me this invitation and I am blessed to partake in this international experience. My hope is that it will further develop my leadership skills and allow me to bring back a better understanding of the game."
According to USA Sports, the team will begin their 2014 Brazil Tour in Orlando, Fla., on July 21st, with the journey lasting through the 30th. After team orientation and practice in Orlando the team departs for Sao Paulo, Brazil on Tuesday, July 22nd. The USA Division III Basketball Teams will play doubleheader matches (Men & Women) on July 23, 24, and 25 in the state of Sao Paulo versus selected teams from the region. Then on July 26th the team travels to Rio de Janeiro for a games on July 28th. The team will depart Brazil on the evening of July 29th and return to Orlando on July 30th.
"Brycen has a unique opportunity to represent our country while competing on an international stage," said head basketball coach Doug Novak. "He will be a tremendous asset for Team USA, just as he has been here at Bethel."
While in Brazil the teams will experience educational, cultural and social aspects of Brazilian life through city, school, and sports club visits. While in Rio the team will be staying on the famous Copacabana Beach and touring the Christ the Redeemer Statue and Sugar Loaf, two of the most recognizable landmarks in the world.
"I am very excited to go to a different part of the world and play against competitors from a different nationality," continued Wojta.
